Project 365: Days 33 - 39

Day 33: Poorly boy - O is suffering with a bad cough and cold so we had a very unsettled night and he ended up in bed with me.

Day 34: Swimming - this week it's E's turn as he started one-to-one swimming lessons.  He's been having group lessons for a while but has got a bit stuck so he's having these lessons to help him move on.

Day 35: Mega Bloks - I came home from work to this Mega Blok monster in the house.  E built it and was very proud of it.  We haven't been allowed to move it all week!

Day 36: Trains - O decided that he didn't want to go to bed and he would much rather come down and play with his train set.

Day 37: Music - O had some friends over to play so we got the musical instruments out.  He's really very good on this little trumpet.

Day 38: Numbers - I've put a few different learning apps on the tablet and O loves practising his numbers.  He spent ages tracing the number 2.

Day 39: Wine - After a day of housework I went to see a friend and enjoyed a glass (or three) of wine and a good chat.

Project 365: Days 26 - 32

Day 26: Haircuts - All three boys needed a haircut so we took them to the local barbers.  This was the first time that O has sat calmly in the chair himself, but the look on his face made me laugh.  I don't think he opened his eyes the whole time his hair was being cut.

Day 27: Teeth - E lost his tooth at school today.  Well, to be precise, his cousin dropped it down the drain after school.  It was a shame as it was the first tooth that has fallen out, but we decided that he should write a letter to the tooth fairy to explain what happened.  It was very sweet and really well written.

Day 28: Drawing - Z has been drawing on one of those sketching boards and I was quite impressed with the detail in this picture of a train with lots of passengers.  I thought I should capture it for posterity as soon after his little brother wiped it clean again.

Day 29: Swimming - O has been refusing to go swimming as he said he's scared so I decided that I need to start taking him every week to get him used to the water as I'd like him to start swimming lessons soon, like his brothers.  It took me twenty minutes to actually get him out of the house as he didn't want to go, and then another ten minutes in the changing room trying to get him to undress.  After a lot of bribery gentle persuasion I eventually managed to get him into the pool, and once in, he loved it!  By the end of the hour he was jumping in and swimming with the help of a noodle.  It was amazing and I'm so glad I took him.  We'll be going every week now.

Day 30: Toy box - O has acquired a new Thomas The Tank Engine toy box from my parents house, and is so enamoured with it that he sat in it for ages saying "choo-choo".

Day 31: Bubble wrap - this isn't the best photo as O is moving.  As the weather is so rubbish at the moment we decided to lay out bubble wrap on the floor and pop it by jumping on it.  We had great fun for ages with this.

Day 32: Classics - Another awful weather today so we had an indoor picnic lunch and watched Mary Poppins on Netflix.  E loved it and I sang along to all the songs (he probably didn't love that bit).

Another year over

Another year is ending and as I sit and reflect on events from the past year, Is wonder what the new year will hold for me.

Without dwelling on anything too much, 2012 had lots of ups and down; very much like most years I suppose.  It's been too easy for me to just think about the negatives from the past year, but I don't want to start a new year feeling like that.  There have been struggles and tensions which are usually money related but lots of good times with the children too.  My youngest started walking, my older boys have won trophies for kickboxing, and we've had a few swimming successes.  In fact, just before Christmas my 5 year old did his 25 metre swimming badge which is utterly amazing as in the summer he was afraid to put his face in the water!

My oldest learnt to ride his bike, and my youngest took took a huge step just before Christmas when he gave all his dummies to the Christmas Fairy.

We've enjoyed a fabulous holiday at Coombe Mill in Cornwall (which I won) and we've spent an amazing weekend at Bluestone National Park Resort in Wales where we visited The Kingdom of the Elves.

On the feed run at Coombe Mill

Santa is under there somewhere.....

It has been a really good year!

But it's now time to say goodbye to this year and look forward to the next.  So what's in store for us?  I wish I knew that but all I can do now is try to make the most of it.  I never usually make resolutions but there are a few things I'd like to do for the year ahead.

This is the year that I am determined to become more organised.  It doesn't come naturally and as I spoke about it early last year, you'd be forgiven for thinking that I'll never manage it.

I'm going to try with a few small things.

Firstly, I am finally going to meal plan.  I've managed to save a bit of money this year by changing my food shopping habits but I still feel that I'm wasting money by not having a meal plan.  I'm going to do some research online to try to come up with interesting ideas for meals.

Secondly, hubby and I started writing down everything we spent before Christmas to see where we can save some money.  I've already had a look at free online budget plans/spreadsheets so we can do this properly from now on.

Finally, I need a bit more organisation for my blogging and competition entering.  They are my only real hobbies but I feel that I need to allow myself set times to get things done.  It's something that I think I'll need to work on a bit as there's going to be a lot of organisation for me to fit everything in.  I think I need to get involved a lot more with everything.

I can't be too rigid in my plans as I'm easily bored so need a bit of flexibility in there.  If you have any tips or ideas that could help me then I'd love to hear them.

I'll keep you posted.

Happy New Year to you!
