Project 365: Days 146 - 152

Day 146: Trains - We spent the day at my in-laws and the weather was so nice that we were able to sit outside for most of the day.  O spent ages playing with the Thomas train track.

Day 147: Pirate Day - we went to Tredegar House for a pirate day and to start our 50 Things adventures.  It was an amazing day and we had lots of fun.

Day 148: Fireman Sam - It rained constantly all day so I decided to get my cleaning and ironing done.  I didn't manage to take a photo until bedtime but I was glad as O decided to wear his Fireman Sam sleepsuit and he looked so cute.

Day 149: Cheese! - O loves having his photo taken at the moment and insists on me taking lots on my phone.  He also tries to take photos of me but they don't turn out so well.

Day 150: Board games - The boys got their games box out and it was great to see them playing together.  It was even nicer to see them playing these traditional games rather than being glued to a games console.

Day 151: Our visitor - Sonic's stay has been extended and we have him until the weekend.  We have to be very careful when we let him out of his hutch as he makes a beeline for all the fruit and veg that I've planted.  He does love to dig!

Day 152: Park fun - we went for a walk in our local park and the boys enjoyed running and jumping around before we stopped to have an ice-cream and look at the ducks.

Project 365: Days 69 - 75

Day 69: A family get together - As it was mother's Day we all went to my sisters for food.  The boys had great fun playing with their cousins and I enjoyed a good chat with my mother and sisters.  O decided that he wanted to try on some 3D glasses and was delighted when everyone laughed at him.  He is quite the little joker.

Day 70: Jigsaw marathon - I got home from work to find that the boys had filled the floor with jigsaws. They had a lovely time putting together as many jigsaws as they could find, but what I loved was that they worked together really well.  Hardly any fighting, crying or screaming for once.

Day 71: Hungry Hippos - I've been to work today but managed to catch this photo of the three boys playing Hungry Hippos.  I love it when they play games together.

Day 72: Flower - My Mothers Day flowers are still going well.  I'm going to try to learn how to take the perfect shot of a flower.  That's my mission for the next few weeks.

Day 73: Swings - O managed to talk me into taking him to the park after the school run even though it was freezing.  It was great to see him running around and getting some fresh air, and he particularly loved the swing.

Day 74: Finger painting - O asked to do some painting this morning so we got the finger paints out and covered the floor.  I enjoyed getting mucky and dabbing paint everywhere; including all over himself.  We now have a series of dots over numerous pieces of paper :-)

Day 75: Snow! - It wasn't forecast but we've just had a really heavy downfall of snow.  It's all white outside.  It looks very pretty but I'm starting to get desperate for some warmer weather.  Will I ever be able to get my sandals out from the back of the wardrobe?

Project 365: Days 41 - 47

I am struggling to blog at the moment but will be continuing with Project 365.  Here goes week 7.

Day 41: Pancakes! - The children were going to spend a few days at their grandparents so I decided to do Pancake Day early.  My eldest helped to make the batter and then it was my middle boy's responsibility to spread the nutella on. My youngest just helped to eat them.  They were delicious.

Day 42: A quiet meal in - the children are spending the night at their grandparents so hubby and I got to sit down to a nice meal and glass of wine without any interruptions.  It was very strange.

Day 43: A sad day - I received a telephone call from my sister late on Monday night letting me know that our uncle had passed away.  He had fought a very long and brave battle with cancer and my mother had been with him every step of the way.  My mother is the most amazing woman I know. I am sad for the loss of my uncle, and sad for my mother who has lost her little brother.  (I know this is cheating as it's a screen shot rather than a photo but it's the best I could do for today.)

Day 44: A touch of snow - my boys are home from their grandparents and were very excited to see some snow.  We only had a bot of a dusting though, and the rain washed it all away later in the day.  They still managed an hour outside.

Day 45: Happy Valentines Day - hubby gave me this single red rose.  We had decided not to do anything for Valentines Day but he came home from work with this rose the day before.  I think it was more to do with what has been happening this week and how sad I've been rather than a romantic gesture, but it was still lovely.

Day 46: Arts and crafts - our local Council had an open day at the sports centre so I took the boys down for a few hours.  Here they are enjoying painting Spongebob Squarepants onto a bag.  I think they've done a really good job.  Unfortunately, this deteriorated a little while later and my youngest ended up with lots of glue and glitter in his hair.  That was fun to get out.

Day 47: Sleepy time - I have spent the day shopping, cleaning and ironing and will admit to almost forgetting to take a photo.  I managed this one just twenty minutes before midnight.  It may be last minute but I do love photos of them sleeping.

My favourite photo this week is the photo of the rose.  It reminds me that there is beauty in life even when I feel like everything around me is falling apart.  I feel so sad.

Project 365: Days 27 - 33

After all the snow of last week, we have had a week of gale force winds and heavy rain so most of the week has been spent indoors.  We made the most of it by playing lots of games.  On the one fine day that we had we escaped to the park, but only for an hour before it started raining again.  Here's week 5 of Project 365.

Day 27: Family ten pin bowling
Day 28: There's an attack on the castle!
Day 29: Playing games on a rainy day
Day 30: More rain, more games, more fun
Day 31: Nothing better than building blocks
Day 32: The only rain-free day this week so we went to the park
Day 33: Dressed up for a birthday party (and happy that there's cake!)

Coombe Mill - part 2

One of the best bits of staying at Coombe Mill was the feed run every morning which my boys thoroughly enjoyed.  But the is more to Coombe Mill than the animals.

On our first night there we went for a wander around the grounds and the children were delighted to find this fantastic play area.  There was a pirate ship and a trampoline and lots of muddy puddles for the little one to jump in (though these are weather dependant!)  It was hard to get the children out of there but as it was getting late, and we were all starving I bribed them with chocolate appealed to their better nature to get them to come back to out fabulous Scandinavian Lodge.

Ship Ahoy!
The Scandinavian Lodges are amazing.  The one we stayed in could sleep up to seven people so there was lots of room.    The living/kitchen/dining area was open plan and the full ceiling height made it even more spacious.  It was like a home from home as the kitchen was fully equipped with every appliance including a washing machine and tumble dryer, making those wet, muddy days so much easier and I could throw it all in the wash.

The decking outside our lodge
Popping into reception was great as there were lots of things there to borrow or buy.  From bread and milk to homemade meals and desserts to buy.  Wellies, potties, games to borrow.  There's no need to pack your car with everything your little one needs as most of it is available to borrow on a first come first served basis.

I mentioned one of the play areas earlier; well that's not the only one.  There was another outdoor play area right next to our lodge.  The children would go racing off to it at any opportunity.  My oldest just loved the zip wire and the younger two loved the swings and climbing frame.  There's a baby swing here too which my little one thoroughly enjoyed.

If the weather is really bad there is an indoor play area.  We did have a look but never used it as, even though we stayed in October, the weather wasn't too bad, and even if it was raining the kids didn't care and would be outside playing with their waterproofs on.

We had lots of fun at Coombe Mill but we did spend some time exploring the surrounding areas.  It took us a while to get used to the narrow country lanes (though I do think that some of them could have been avoided if we hadn't followed our sat nav!), but we found some absolutely beautiful areas.  From Port Isaac on a drizzly day......

To the amazing Polzeath beach.  Who would have thought that it's October!!  The children adored it here.

We also found a lovely little model railway museum and my train obsessed 2 year old can't believe his eyes.

We ended our week with a visit to Padstow for fish and chips, followed by ice-cream.

Rain or shine, there is so much to do whether you stay on the farm, or go exploring.  This was my first visit to  Cornwall (and Coombe Mill) but it certainly won't be my last.

Sunshine moments

I couldn't resist posting this photo from today. It's not often we see blue sky at the moment so it's been great to get outside and have some fun in the sun.
