Project 365: Days 75 - 81

I didn't have the best week last week and took very few photos so didn't do a 365 post, but it made me more determined to do one this week.

Day 75: Enjoying an ice-cream
Day 76: My little book worm
Day 77: Silly hats in the office
Day 78: My cross training workout
Day 79: Enjoying the fine weather and a bit of scooting
Day 80: Ready for Sports Relief
Day 81: Ready for a party (not that you'd think so by the look on his face)

Project 365: Days 97 - 103

Day 97: Rocking fun - My little one discovered his rocking cow that I'd just put on eBay.  He hasn't touched it for months but must have known that it was time for it to go.  He did have a fun five minutes playing on it, though he is a bit big for it now.

Day 98: Rex - this is the only dog we'll have for the foreseeable future.  Good friends of ours bought him for the boys and they all love him.  I'd love a pet for the children at some point but I know it would be too much at the moment. Maybe when they're a little bit older.

Day 99: Sleeping like a baby - My oldest boy is turning seven this week.  I can remember the day he was born like it was yesterday and I can't believe that seven years have passed since then.  He tries to act so grown up but when I watch him sleeping I remember how young he really is.

Day 100: Making lists - he's hard at work making a list of friends that he wants to invite to his birthday party.  He's so excited about it and can't wait to give the invitations out.  That's my job for tomorrow.

Day 101: The little one and I went out for lunch with friends and it obviously wore the poor little thing out.  He fell fast asleep as soon as we got home and that's where he stayed for some time.  I try not to let him sleep during the day as it's hard work to get him to bed in the night but he must have needed this.

Day 102: Book Day - The boys school had a book day today where all the children got to dress up and take their favourite book into school.  My middle boy decided to go as Harry Potter and I thought he looked amazing all dressed up.  My oldest went as one of the boys from The Famous Five (I think so that he didn't have to wear a costume).

Day 103: Fascination - We spent the weekend with good friends in Manchester and we all had a wonderful time.  My little one was fascinated with the front camera on my phone so I ended up taking lots of photos of him.

Project 365: Days 83 - 89

Day 83: Party time - The boys went to a birthday party today.  We tend to have at least one most weekends since the oldest two started school.  They had a great time on the bouncy castle and in the ball pit, and my oldest was very pleased when he managed to throw a ball through the basketball hoop.

Day 84: Feed the birds - The first day of the Easter holiday and luckily the weather was dry, though very cold.  The boys decided to take some leftover bread out into the garden to feed the birds.

Day 85: Photo opportunity - Here are my younger two laughing at being able to see themselves on my phone screen. They love having their photo taken.

Day 86: Coughing boy - Just 24 hours later and my baby boy is poorly again.  We had a bit of a rough night with coughing fits that ended with vomit.  There were lots of changes of clothes and we were all covered with towels.

Day 87: Biscuits - My little one was feeling a lot better today and he enjoyed his Easter Bunny biscuit.  I wish I could say that I'd made it myself but it came courtesy of Greggs.

Day 88: Hotel - Today we travelled to Slough to stay in the Premier Inn ready for our adventure in Legoland.  I was very impressed with the room and we all had a great night.  There were also the friendliest hotel staff that I have ever met.

Day 89: Legoland! - We spent the day at Legoland and had the most amazing time.  I'm going to write a post about it this week but here is a photo of the oldest two with Darth Vader.

Project 365: Days 27 - 33

After all the snow of last week, we have had a week of gale force winds and heavy rain so most of the week has been spent indoors.  We made the most of it by playing lots of games.  On the one fine day that we had we escaped to the park, but only for an hour before it started raining again.  Here's week 5 of Project 365.

Day 27: Family ten pin bowling
Day 28: There's an attack on the castle!
Day 29: Playing games on a rainy day
Day 30: More rain, more games, more fun
Day 31: Nothing better than building blocks
Day 32: The only rain-free day this week so we went to the park
Day 33: Dressed up for a birthday party (and happy that there's cake!)

Party Planning

Their cakes last year
It's that time of year again where I need to start planning a birthday party.  Actually, it should have all been organised by now as the party is only a matter of weeks away.  It's for my middle and youngest boys as they are turning 5 and 2 respectively.  You'd think that I'd be an old hand at this by now what with having two parties a year between my three children (with the exception of my oldest sons last birthday which I still feel guilty about).

I've spent plenty of time in the past agonising over cakes, invitations, venues, and even what sort of balloons to get.

I think my main problem when it comes to organising the party is that I'm too indecisive.  And  I leave everything until the last minute.  It's not really a god combination.

I got the Thomas cake eventually
I remember planning my oldest sons third birthday.  He adored Thomas the Tank Engine so there was no doubt as to the theme of the party.  I'd hired a hall, I was all organised, yet I managed not to order his cake until a week before his party.  There's always something stress over.  It usually turns out okay in the end, but always causes me sleepless nights in the process.

So here we are again.  Their party is in three weeks.  I booked the venue yesterday and am now in the process of trying to decide which bouncy castle/inflatable slide/soft play area is best.  I have actually enquired about cakes (well, asked my mother to anyway) and my mother has found a face painter.  The themes are sorted - Ethan wants the Gruffalo and as Oliver has also developed a major love affair with the well known little blue tank engine, he will be having a Thomas theme.  I've somehow got to blend the two but I'm sure I can manage that.

Almost done really.  Oh wait a minute....

I still need to invite people.  I have invited those with Facebook accounts (so easy to set up an event on there), but I've still got Ethan's class to invite and anyone who hasn't succumbed to the dark depths of the aforementioned social networking site.

Then there's tableware, banners, balloons and party bags to think about.  Do I go for the easy pre-packed plastic party bags, or spend time lovingly creating my own using the more environmentally friendly (and nicer looking) paper bags?

What about the food and drink?  I've always prepared my own buffets and I never cater for the adults.  The most I do for them is buy a few bottles of pop so they can have a drink.  After all, this is about the children, not the grown-ups who accompany them.

But the latest trend in the school parties is to get sausage and chips from the local chip shop.  Easier?  Possibly cheaper?  I don't know.  All I do know is that it's yet another decision to make.  I was happy with the way I do things, so don't know if I really want to change.

I adore these cupcakes
I suppose I'd better get my nose back to the grindstone and start googling every website of every bouncy castle hire company in my area.  (What is it with companies who don't have a website these days?  Or even a Facebook page at least?  They don't actually expect me to pick up the phone to make an enquiry do they?)  I'll probably spend the next two hours looking and still not have made a decision by the end of it.

I think I need a personal assistant to help me with these things.  It would be so much easier to just give my requirements and then have someone else do it all for me.

Even then I probably wouldn't be happy though.  Yes, I get stressed and worry over every minute detail, but I always get a small sense of satisfaction when it all comes together in the end.  Ultimately, as long as my boys enjoy themselves then I'm happy.

So, I've got three weeks to organise the best party that a 5 year old and a 2 year old could wish for.  Someone pass the wine, it's going to be a long night.

Chilling out in soft play

Roarrrrrr!!!
