I'm a DIY disaster

Tots 100 and are running an amazing competition and have challenged us to makeover a room of our choice. I've agonised over which room to choose as my heart wants to do the spare bedroom to turn it into the perfect sleeping and playing place for my two youngest boys, but my head tells me that it needs to be my en-suite bathroom.  This is the reason why.

Firstly, I will admit that this is self inflicted.  Around six months ago I asked my father to rip out the shower in my en-suite as the lovely mosaic tiles that were fitted eight years ago were falling off the walls and causing water to leak through to the kitchen ceiling.  I was getting an increasingly large water stain on my kitchen ceiling and was worried about the shower ending up downstairs!  The problem was that we didn't have the money to replace it.  Needless to say, my husband was not best pleased with what I'd done.

Every morning I wake up and feel miserable at the empty space in my en-suite.  Every night my husband comes home from work and gives me 'that look' before running the bath.  Even my six year old son keeps asking when we'll have a shower again.  Though the spiders are loving it.  There's these lovely big, brown ones that keep coming out of the walls to find warmth in the house *shudder*  My five year old son refuses to go into the room any more though, but he managed it for a short time in order to tell you about the spiders.

It is my dream to surprise my husband and children with a lovely, shiny new room that no spiders can access.

Enough of the misery, onto the dream.

I want to create a sanctuary; something calming and gentle that will co-ordinate with my bedroom.  Neutral tones, contemporary lines and a splash of colour.  I'd love more storage, a basin that stands on a unit and posh taps.  Oh, and a heated towel rail.  I've always wanted one of those.  I quite like the shower boards instead of tiles.  No chance of any spiders getting through those!  Take a look at my Pinterest board to see more of my ideas and plans.  The only trouble is, the more I pin the more I want!

This would be the ultimate room, but unfortunately even a renovation wouldn't give me that.  I'd need a new house!

A huge thank you to Tots 100 and for this competition.  Even if I don't win I've now got all my ideas ready for when we can afford to do the work. painting and decorating

I deserve some shoes

My challenge is complete.  I managed to post on my blog every day throughout August and I feel very proud of myself for doing it.

It wasn't always easy, and I admit that some posts are a bit ropey but I got there, and I am glad I did it. It's helped get me back into the swing of blogging, but more importantly, I've discovered some lovely blogs and bloggers along the way.

I've started to enjoy my blog again, and it's reminded me of the reason that I started blogging in the first place.

I even learnt to blog from my mobile phone!

I can't promise that I'll continue to blog every day as some days I don't feel like I've got anything to say, but I am now looking forward to keeping my blog going and creating my memories.

A huge thank you to those who have commented and supported me; you have made it all worthwhile.

All I've got to do now is order those shoes.  I think I deserve them!

My blogging challenge (update)

I'm two weeks in to my personal blogging challenge so thought I'd do a quick update on how it's going.  I'm very happy to say that I've managed to write a post every day so far, though will admit that some of my posts have been slightly ropey.

I do struggle on some days (like today) when it feels like all of my brain cells have been eaten away by work or small people.  I think I find it more difficult on the days that I work as I haven't got a lot to talk about after a day in the office.

Thankfully there are some wonderful bloggers who host linkys which usually give me some inspiration for a post.

I have noticed that I have got a few posts without any comments and I wonder if this happens when you write more posts, or whether it's just because those posts are rubbish!  Or maybe I'm not very good with promoting my posts.

I'll keep going, and keep thinking of those shoes :)

My personal blogging challenge

Hello, my name is Joanne and I've been a rubbish blogger.

I was so full of good intentions when I started blogging last year.  I was going to blog a few times every week, run competitions, write reviews of all my favourite products, and more importantly, use my blog as a diary of my children as they grow up.  Instead, I write a few posts every month, haven't run a competition for ages and reviews are few and far between.  As for a diary of my children... well, let's not go there.  I've been using the excuse that I'm too busy living my life to blog about it, when the truth is that I'm just too lazy.  I have got plenty of time every evening when I could write a quick post, but I end up messing around on Facebook or Twitter instead.

Now I know that this doesn't worry anyone else, but I feel like I've let myself down as I really wanted to make this work.  So I've decided to do something about it.  I'm the type of person that likes working under pressure.  I love deadlines and the stress of leaving everything until the last minute, but I always get it done.  So I've decided to set myself a little challenge.  If I can manage to write a blog post every day in August then I get a treat at the end of it.  I've been trying to decide what would be an appropriate treat and at the moment it's a toss up between a new pair of shoes or a handbag.  Decisions, decisions.  What would you get?
