Spring fashion

Whenever I go out these days I have a moment of panic about what I look like and whether I'm dressing appropriately for my age.  Okay, so I'm not very old (well, I don't think I am anyway) but I do worry a little bit about my clothes.  I think I always have and I envy those people who can just throw anything on and still look great.  I find it really hard to pick out an outfit for myself, though strangely seem to be able to pick things out for other people.  Maybe it's because I haven't really got a true style identity.  I don't know.

I'm okay with my work clothes and I enjoy dressing up a bit.  Give me a black dress and high heels and I'm happy.  What I find really difficult is the more casual, throw something on to do the school run or go shopping, sort of style.  It just doesn't come naturally to me.  So with Spring (almost) in the air, it's time to change this.  I've created a wishlist from New Look for some inspiration as they've got a huge choice of items at very reasonable prices.

Skinny jeans are a bit of a staple item for me, but with a slightly longer line top which will hide a multitude of sins.  I've added a pair of ballet pumps and nice, colourful bangles to liven it up.

And for those warm, sunny days ahead (a bit of positive thought might help), I love this maxi dress.

Project 365: Days 48 - 54

Day 48: Science day - we went to Techniquest in Cardiff Bay and had an amazing time.  The boys were completely engrossed in all the experiments and this photo is of my 5 year old putting the organs back into the human body.  He then went on to put the human skeleton together.  A future doctor maybe??  We all had a great time and will be going back there very soon.

Day 49: Reading -   I spent the whole day interviewing for new staff at work so was completely exhausted,  It was so nice to go home and see my boys.  I'm currently reading this Famous Five book to my oldest two and I love it.  I adored anything by Enid Blyton when I was young and I love being able to pass this on to my own children.

Day 50: Colouring - Another day spent at work but I had parents evening for my 5 year old after work.  It was so lovely to hear how great he is getting on in school and how much his fine motor skills have progressed since he started in Reception class.  His teacher raved about his reading and learning skills and I was an even prouder mummy than normal.  This photo is of a piece of work that he brought home.

Day 51: Sleepy boy - we had a bit of a bad day today.  We went to a friends for lunch where my 2 year old proceeded to cry, and cry, and cry.  I started to feel ill and ended up leaving before bursting into tears.  By the end of the evening I couldn't talk or swallow and felt very sorry for myself.  I spent the evening in bed before waking up and realising that I hadn't taken a photo that day.  I managed to get this one of my now calm child sleeping sideways in his cot.

Day 52: Family matters - it was the day of my uncles funeral which, as you can imagine was very emotional and tiring.  It was hard to see my mother so upset  and I felt helpless as there was nothing I could do or say to make it better.  I think that times like these do make you realise what's important in life, so this is me and one of my very important things.  My children and my family are what matters more than anything.

Day 53: After effects - I spent the day with my parents, reading sympathy cards and chatting about life in general.  My mother had a vase full of these beautiful lilies.

Day 54: Messy play - Ollie and I had a play date at a friends house to do messy play.  It was amazing and he loved playing in the dirt and with the water.  He wasn't so keen on all the food items and just pointed at them saying yuck.  We'll have to work on that one.

Project 365: Days 41 - 47

I am struggling to blog at the moment but will be continuing with Project 365.  Here goes week 7.

Day 41: Pancakes! - The children were going to spend a few days at their grandparents so I decided to do Pancake Day early.  My eldest helped to make the batter and then it was my middle boy's responsibility to spread the nutella on. My youngest just helped to eat them.  They were delicious.

Day 42: A quiet meal in - the children are spending the night at their grandparents so hubby and I got to sit down to a nice meal and glass of wine without any interruptions.  It was very strange.

Day 43: A sad day - I received a telephone call from my sister late on Monday night letting me know that our uncle had passed away.  He had fought a very long and brave battle with cancer and my mother had been with him every step of the way.  My mother is the most amazing woman I know. I am sad for the loss of my uncle, and sad for my mother who has lost her little brother.  (I know this is cheating as it's a screen shot rather than a photo but it's the best I could do for today.)

Day 44: A touch of snow - my boys are home from their grandparents and were very excited to see some snow.  We only had a bot of a dusting though, and the rain washed it all away later in the day.  They still managed an hour outside.

Day 45: Happy Valentines Day - hubby gave me this single red rose.  We had decided not to do anything for Valentines Day but he came home from work with this rose the day before.  I think it was more to do with what has been happening this week and how sad I've been rather than a romantic gesture, but it was still lovely.

Day 46: Arts and crafts - our local Council had an open day at the sports centre so I took the boys down for a few hours.  Here they are enjoying painting Spongebob Squarepants onto a bag.  I think they've done a really good job.  Unfortunately, this deteriorated a little while later and my youngest ended up with lots of glue and glitter in his hair.  That was fun to get out.

Day 47: Sleepy time - I have spent the day shopping, cleaning and ironing and will admit to almost forgetting to take a photo.  I managed this one just twenty minutes before midnight.  It may be last minute but I do love photos of them sleeping.

My favourite photo this week is the photo of the rose.  It reminds me that there is beauty in life even when I feel like everything around me is falling apart.  I feel so sad.

Project 365: Days 27 - 33

After all the snow of last week, we have had a week of gale force winds and heavy rain so most of the week has been spent indoors.  We made the most of it by playing lots of games.  On the one fine day that we had we escaped to the park, but only for an hour before it started raining again.  Here's week 5 of Project 365.

Day 27: Family ten pin bowling
Day 28: There's an attack on the castle!
Day 29: Playing games on a rainy day
Day 30: More rain, more games, more fun
Day 31: Nothing better than building blocks
Day 32: The only rain-free day this week so we went to the park
Day 33: Dressed up for a birthday party (and happy that there's cake!)
